SEASONS GREETINGS FROM RUSSIA!
So, you still have no plans for New Year’s Eve? How would you feel about swapping these increasingly dull-mild British winter temperatures for the snow-white landscapes of Moscow, Russia, where the New Year is met with even more anticipation than in e.g. Paris.

7 reasons to see Christmas in Russia
1. Enjoy Christmas twice
Imagine yourself looking forward to Xmas in your home country and in Russia. This will double the joy. Keep it secret. Or spill the beans and see how your colleagues feel.
2. Deals in the right place, right time
Like to buy Xmas gifts such as toys, sweets, etc? Russians (esp. ladies) like gifts (esp. foreign). Sellers in your country will thank you for taking these gifts off their shelves after Dec. 25. Bring them to Russia and give before Jan. 7 to friends or drivers of taxi in Moscow. You will see miracles happen.
3. Cheaper travel
Air fares rise for Christmas. With 10 holidays in a row, Russians fly out by Jan. 1 and in after Jan. 7. Fly the opposite way. Come to Moscow by Jan. 7 and go after.
4. Sending out cards
Fancy to send a Xmas card to the hotel where you will be staying? Or send Xmas cards from Russia to your friends in your home country.
5. The dates
If you think 'true' Christmas is on Dec. 25, you might want to reconsider. Hundreds years ago the world switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. Xmas Day in this century has fallen on Dec. 12 in the original, Julian calendar. It will be so until 2099. No one knows for sure when Jesus Christ was born. Historians think of late May.
6. See Russian festive culture
If you want to see other cultures, Russian Christmas is the right time. You will be able to see how Russians celebrate the most beloved festive season, 10 days in a row.
7. Better understand Russians
‘Russia is a riddle’? When we bring guests to St. Sergius Lavra, they perceive Russians better. See a service in one of churches on Christmas Eve on Jan. 6. It will have a big impact on your view of Russians.
Russian Christmas Tree Toys Tour

After the Xmas Tree Toys Tour you can take a workshop to paint your own glass bubble. Then we will visit the shop with a great number of Xmas and New Year toys, bubbles and trees.
Xmas Tree Toys Tour will amaze you (esp. if you take it in early Jan.). During it, the guide will lead you thru the rooms. She or he will help you plunge in the fairy tale world of the festive time. You will feel like a kid many years ago waiting for the Xmas Eve and the gifts.

In 1699 Peter I decreed to celebrate New Year on Jan. 1. From that time on houses were to be decorated with pine brunches. The rite came from Germany. That's why in 1914-16 (WWI) there were plans and acts in Russia to ban the use of New Year trees. History repeats itself. Do US French fries in 2003 ring a bell?
In late 20-s the rite for the New Year tree was banned in the USSR as a tsarist relic. In 1935, it was brought back to the kids.
In the Xmas Tree Toys Tour you’ll hear amazing facts from the guide. Fruits were used to decorate the trees. Apples were placed into the branches (pls. see below). Later the apples were replaced with red glass bubbles.
Patterns changed with time incl. main trends and symbols. One of the latest topics is the Sochi Games. In 30-s aviation was a major theme. In 50-s space came with space men.
Mary falls asleep on Christmas Eve. She sees that her Nutcracker turns into a prince... It is one of the most popular ballets in the world. It is often staged on Xmas. We also chose it as the music theme for this web page. If you are interested in his music, pls. see our tour to his House. If you are a big fan of music and ballet, pls. see our Tour to Bolshoi.
